Pile of LavenderRealising the last touches of summer are well and truly leaving for warmer climes – we thought we had better use some of our lavender stash collected from our visit to the Hitchin Lavender Farm.

Jo Wood’s lavender shortbread recipe for Macmillan Cancer Support seemed the perfect choice.

Mr Crumpet and I were a little too overenthusiastic in our first shortbread batch, liberally sprinkling more and more lavender into the mixture. I am ashamed to say these particular biscuits were handed out to perplexed work colleagues (don’t pretend you would not do the same), who wondered whether to eat, or lather up and wash their hands, with our shortbread gift.

We were more frugal in our second batch, which was happily given to friends and family. The recipe was light, buttery and rich with only a hint of lavender flowers.
